“You can give a person a fish for a day—or teach them to fish for a lifetime.” That’s the philosophy behind Big Bucks: The Business Money Game, an exciting new financial literacy initiative rolling out in partnership with SimplyBiz, AlexBiz, and KasiKonnect.
Learning through play
The Big Bucks board game transforms financial literacy into an engaging, hands-on experience. Through play, entrepreneurs discover how their financial statements—income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow—interconnect to tell the real story of their business.
From Soweto to Alex: A growing movement
The KasiKonnect SpazaSupply+ launch took place in Diepkloof, Soweto, where 30 trainers were trained and local entrepreneurs, including 50 township manufacturers, got to experience the Big Bucks game first-hand. This past Monday, another round of Train the Trainer sessions took place at AlexBiz, equipping a new group of small business professionals—accountants, bookkeepers, and financial practitioners—with the tools to cascade this learning in their communities.
And the momentum continues: this coming Monday, a new batch of entrepreneurs will experience the power of play, unlocking practical understanding of business finances in a way that’s fun, relatable, and empowering.
Teaching the teachers
The Train-the-Trainer approach ensures sustainability. Trainers go on to host game sessions in their own networks, multiplying impact and deepening financial understanding across township and local business ecosystems.
For too long, many small business owners have avoided financial statements due to fear or lack of exposure. Big Bucks changes that—showing that finance isn’t a foreign language, but a story every entrepreneur can learn to read and own.
